International powerchair football representatives from Japan, New Zealand?and Singapore arrived in Sydney this week for the 2013 Asian Pacific Oceania?(APO) Powerchair Football Cup.
For the first time, Australia will organise the biennial tournament which?determines which nation possesses the top powerchair football team in the?Asian-Pacific region.

New South Wales Minister for Sport and?Recreation, the Honourable Graham Annesley MP, will today open the tournament at
Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre, which will play host to??all 2013 APO Cup?matches
Rale Rasic, the man who mentored the Qantas Socceroos at the 1974 FIFA World?Cup in West Germany and also coached the ?Poweroos? at the 2011 World Cup in?Paris, is the 2013 APO Cup Ambassador.
Former Qantas Socceroos Head Coach and current Central Coast Mariners boss,?Graham Arnold, will present the?competition?s Champion with the 2013 APO Cup.
Australian Powerchair Football Association President, Mr Matt Cross, said?the Australian Powerchair community is proud to be hosting the 2013 APO Cup.
?This is an important event in the world of Powerchair football, and we are?delighted that the responsibility to organise Powerchair football?s 2013 APO?Cup has fallen to Australia,? Cross said. ?However while we have home court?advantage, it will be tough to win, and I know our players would love some?vocal local support.?
?These events are always expensive to organise, and I would like to thank?our training venue, Kevin Betts Stadium, the New South Wales Government,?Football New South Wales, Football Federation Australia, Invacare,?Northcott, Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre and all our other supporters?for their assistance,? he said.
Rale Rasic said: ?The Poweroos are amazing. Every time I watch them I cannot?believe how much they?ve improved. They are worthy of wearing the green and?gold.?
Current Hyundai A-League Coach of the Year, Graham Arnold, said: ?The?Poweroos prove that football is for everyone. I am looking forward to?attending Saturday?s Final with some of our Mariners players, and from what?I have heard we will be impressed by the level that the APO Cup?representatives play their brand of football.?
