Those syblings will not be pleased if you loose their information and connection.

Do you think your tree is that much of a mess that you cannot edit and fix the issues? Newer versions of FTM allow you to see relationships much better and corrections may be easier to do than recreating the whole tree. I'd try an attempt to clean your current file and see how it goes.
