IT Sligo students organise basketball blitz for the ... - LookWest:

IT SligoFourth year tourism students completing a module in ?Event Management?, as part of their Bachelor of Business in Tourism honours course at IT Sligo, have teamed up with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership to host a community basketball blitz. This event is promoting the sport of basketball within Sligo as it is over shadowed by other sports. It is encouraging children to become active at a young age and participate in enjoyable sports, such as basketball, while meeting and making new friends.

The blitz is aimed at children between the ages of 8 - 10 years old in 3rd and 4th classes from primary schools around the region of Sligo, eight schools have been invited to take part in the event. The schools who are interested in participating will need to appoint a teacher or supervisor who will be required to take part in a training day, hosted by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership, which will involve learning how to create and maintain basketball teams, games, training etc. in their local community. There will local volunteers who will be there on the day to assist in the supervising and managing of children on the day.

This fun filled day will introduce children to an enjoyable aspect of basketball and show them what can be gained from it: healthy lifestyle, exercise and friendship. Anyone wishing to find out more or to volunteer in the project can do so by contacting Theresa Kilgannon at Youth Sport West, VEC offices, Riverside, Sligo Tel: 071 916 1511
